Gabrielle Care, DVM, CVMMP

Dr. Gabrielle Care grew up in Berks County Pennsylvania and fell in love with horses at an early age. Shortly after joining pony camp at a local barn, she knew horses were going to be a major part of her life. She quickly convinced her mom to get her a pony of her own to train and show. As her life unfolded, she continued training and competing in Dressage through high school. All the while, as a child, her family bred and competed Neapolitan mastiffs. From both the horse and dog sides, she couldn’t wait to attend every vet appointment. She even helped with the dog C-sections. It is these early experiences that sparked her interest in veterinary medicine and ultimately drove her to become a veterinarian.

After graduating high school, she attended Penn State University (GO LIONS!) with a major in biology. She was honored and humbled to be the recipient of the very distinguished Doris McKinstry Scholarship awarded to women excelling in science. While working toward her undergraduate degree, she spent a summer abroad in Canada completing a wildlife research project focused on the conservation of the Common Tern. Still focused on veterinary medicine, any free time was spent shadowing a local equine veterinarian and gaining as much experience as possible.

After graduating from Penn State, she moved to Blacksburg to attend the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. From the start, she chose an equine emphasis tract to maximize the incredible opportunities afforded equine focused students. During her time there, she was an active member of American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) and the community service club--Omega Tau Sigma. During her clinical 4th year, she spent several weeks learning from and working closely with the surgeons and internists at the Marion DuPont Scott Equine Medical Center in Leesburg, VA. Every summer break was spent completing numerous externships across the country. These summer experiences helped further expose her to different practitioners around the country and help mold her compassionate bedside manner and feed her insatiable intellect. She graduated in May 2019 with high academic honors. She was recognized as a member of the prestigious Phi Zeta Honor Society.

Following veterinary school graduation, she accepted a competitive and industry-wide respected internship at Unionville Equine Associates (UEA) in Pennsylvania. UEA is a premier PA equine veterinary practice with a very large ambulatory and hospital base—with more than 12 veterinarians on staff and dozens of staff. This internship provided her with tremendous exposure and experience in sports medicine, surgery, theriogenology, imaging and anesthesia. During her internship, she developed a strong interest in sports medicine and imaging. Because of her many successes and reciprocal respect of its diverse clientele, she was offered a rare associate position to stay at UEA which she accepted and held for the past two years.

Dr. Care attended the Chi Institute and became certified as a medical manipulation practitioner (aka chiropractor). She looks forward to introducing this service to TEVA and integrating it into everyday practice.

Dr. Care comes to TEVA energized about a smaller practice - more focused on individual relationships and more opportunities to directly influence the health, well-being, and performance of its patients. Dr. Care is very excited to join the openly engaging equine community of Northern Virginia and is honored to join TEVA. She looks forward to garnering long lasting relationships with all of you and providing the best care possible to all patients.

"I’m super excited to welcome Dr. Gabrielle Care to TEVA. She embodies everything that you have come to expect from a TEVA veterinarian. Coming from a very large equine referral hospital, she brings a ton of knowledge and practical experience to us. She’s a great fit! And Gabby has the absolute trust and confidence of TEVA’s veterinarians. Together, we are excited for you to meet her." – Dr. Jay Joyce
